About the press
The Western
Academic & Specialist Press was founded in 1998 to give readers
and authors:
- scholarly
excellence
- high
quality, readable, durable books
- value
for money
We have a small
but important list in the broad field of archaeology. WASP books
are available directly from our distributors and you may order via
this web site.
In 2002 we
launched our first international academic journal, Before Farming
- the archaeology and anthropology hunter-gatherers. In 2003
we launched our second journal, Art on the line, an international
arts journal focusing on visual culture. WASP will be launching
a further archaeology journal in 2005.
We have recently
begun to publish books of more general interest under the Beagle
imprint. The Beagle name echoes both Charles Darwin's ship and the
inquisitive hound: we want Beagles to be voyages of discovery for
inquisitive people. Our first Beagle is now out and can be ordered
through this site.
The books

WASP books
are printed and bound by a specialist press with high production
standards.

All academic
books are peer-reviewed before we agree to publish, so that customers
can be assured they are buying books at the pinnacle of scholarship.
Beagle books are test-read by a variety of readers with differing
interests before we accept them for publication.
