Construction and Funding

£250,000 pounds are needed for the construction of the Heritage Centre (a fully costed budget is available to potential donors). The National Heritage Conservation Commission (NHCC) of Zambia will be responsible for all the running costs of the Centre. The Centre is designed around a central courtyard for the performance of traditional dances and craft production with three linked galleries (Natural History, Archaeology, Ethnography). Each wing can be funded individually bearing a sponsor’s name.

Entrance to the proposed Heritage Conservation Centre.
Project management track record: Dr Larry Barham was awarded £243,000 by the Arts and Humanities Research Council for his current research after 12 previous years of successful interdisciplinary (and international) project management in the challenging environment of Zambia. The NHCC is responsible for overseeing Zambia’s cultural and natural heritage and is experienced in managing interpretative centres, but lacks the capital to fund any new projects.

This funding project is managed by Dr Larry Barham, a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Liverpool. Once established the Heritage and Conservation Centre will be managed and maintained locally by Zambia’s National Heritage Conservation Commission.
Funds are being held now by the University of Liverpool and donations can be made directly to the Liverpool University Development Fund. Please contact us to find out more about the ongoing research and conservation in the region or for further information regarding sponsorship and donations.
